2018 is a new year and with it, new rides. I got a chance to race in the IMSA Prototype Challenge in the P3 class. The car is a Ligier LMP3 closed cockpit prototype racer. It was a great opportunity to be reunited with old friends at Extreme Speed Motorsports and run at the world famous Daytona International Speedway. I shared the ride with former teammate and friend Max Hanratty.
The team supplied us with a good car from the beginning, and getting up to speed in a new car and track was effortless. Max and I both shared the top of the time sheets in both practices, which was impressive given it was 30F outside for the weekend in early January. I qualified the car, and took it easy as it was 28F on track. We still started front row in second. On the start of the race I quickly pounced and took first. Only to give it back just before the strip on the opening lap. I then had a miss hap and a small off in the West Horseshoe, and fell to fifth. I put my head down and quickly re climbed the ladder back to second before handing the car to Max. In the end we took fourth, but it was a great experience getting to drive the LMP3.
