The grand finale to the 2016 IMSA Mazda Prototype Lites series presented by Cooper Tire was at Road Atlanta. The series ran alongside the WeatherTech Sports Car Championship’s finale the Petite Le Man. A lot less problems to start the weekend, which was a nice change of pace. Learning a new track is always fun and especially at a fast paced venue like Road Atlanta. Started the first race in fifth, but finished 3rd place! Ran a consistent race, and caught third and fourth place. We had a awesome scrap for third, but unfortunately my teammate and our competitor got together in turn 1. They both are thankfully alright afterwards. But super stoked for the #29 Treehouse Property Management Mazda Lites car to be on the podium. Big thanks to Extreme Speed Motorsport for a awesome car today.
It was a crazy on the final day of the 2016 MPL season. I started the day fifth, got to fourth quickly and chased the leaders for a while. I caught third after he lost speed with a issue. Second seemed out of sight when we got a caution with 15 minutes left. I got a amazing restart and jumped into second for only about 10 seconds when a lapped competitor ran me off the track onto the front straight grass. I have never decelerated that quickly without hitting a stationary object. I pulled into the pits with overheating issues a lap latter, and the team pulled out enough grass to fill a 55 gallon barrel. Funny and disappointing last race, but we did finish the year third overall! Thanks to Treehouse Property Management, Extreme Speed Motorsport, Mazda Motorsports, IMSA and Team Cooper Tire for their hard work this season.
