Coaching: March 2020

Last year I was hired to professionally coach Joe Viso and his Elan DP02 in the P1 class of SCCA competition. Joe also has been racing a Spec Racer Ford, which I have also happily helped him with, in the San Francisco region SCCA. Joe and I have been working on how to load the tires to help converse momentum… Read more →

For the last two years, I have been professionally coaching a driver John Purcell in the Formula Car Challenge championship. John acquired a Pro Formula Mazda in 2018 after a successful test at Thunderhill with World Speed Motorsports. John hired me to help him enhance his driving skills and understanding of racing dynamics. We worked on braking and the conservation… Read more →

IMSA Prototype Challenge Sebring

The second round of the IMSA Prototype Challenge was the the famed 12 hours of Sebring Florida.  I was still racing for Extreme Speed Motorsports, but was switched to the #30 Ligier LMP3 car with Kris Wright as my co-driver. Kris and I learned quickly that we did not have the car that we wanted to compete with the very… Read more →

MPL at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for rounds 10, 11, & 12

Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is a home away from home for me.  After a rough run in Canada, I was looking to bounce back and get my championship going in the right way. The weekend of course started poorly with a faulty air compressor for the pneumatic shifter. Missed the first practice with something that will comeback later.  Then of… Read more →

Back in Canada for another two rounds of the Mazda Prototype Lites series presented by Cooper Tire.  This time at the historic Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres GP3R.  The series got to be a headliner along side Canadian NASCAR.  The only street circuit of the year was to bring a tough challenge in a wide and long prototype car.  Another track for… Read more →

MPL rounds 6&7 at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park

Another rough weekend to look back on.  My first time driving north of the border at the infamous Mosport.  Had a left front wheel hub break on the exit of flat out turn 1, parking early on the test day. Behind the curve and learning another a new track I had a close encounter with a local seagull as can… Read more →

MPL Triple Header at Watkins Glen

It was a tough weekend for me at Watkins Glen for rounds 3, 4, and 5.  Started off with a left rear suspension failure that ended practice 1 early and forced us to miss practice 2.  I have never driven Watkins Glen International, so this really put us behind the eight ball.  Qualifying was my first real session and I… Read more →

Mazda Prototypes Lites R1 & R2 at Sebring

We just finished rounds 1 & 2 of the Mazda Prototype Lites presented by Cooper Tire championship at Sebring International Raceway. This was my first time in the Elan DP-02 with the Mazda MZR 2.0. I have raced Pro Mazda before which is the same tub as the DP-02, but that’s where the similarities end. The DP-02 has a wider… Read more →
